BIPA Course Starts !!!
This year is the first time of the BIPA (Indonesian for Non-Native Speakers) program that is being held online. After carrying out orientation activities on September 18, 2020, the BIPA program was officially opened. A total of 31 foreign students who have passed the final selection will take part in online lectures in the odd semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. The 31 students came from 9 countries including Thailand with 9 students, Egypt with 6 students, China with 8 students, Yemen with 2 students, Somalia with 2 students, and 1 student each from France, Sudan, Australia, and India.
Foreign Students will take part in KEDARING (Kelas Daring) for 5 months. The courses offered by Unesa include listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and Introduction to Indonesian Culture each with 2 credits. During these 3 months, foreign students have studied self-introduction, topics regarding numbers, months and days, grammar, typical food, culture, and ethnicity in Indonesia.
Even though the program is being held online, the enthusiasm of foreign students does not subside because the learning materials are packaged systematically and fun. For example, when discussing material about musical instruments, culture, and habits of Indonesian society, one of the students from Timor Leste shared information about his favorite musical instrument and sang a song from his country.
Zacharie Nichols, a foreign student from Australia, explained that the reason he joined this program was that he has an interest in the Indonesian language and culture so he wanted to learn many things about Indonesia. Nichols also revealed that he had visited Indonesia to be precise in East Nusa Tenggara. This program is scheduled to be held for 5 months from September to January 2021.
